Warehouse Workers Gives Pt England school A Donation

Today at 9:30 am the year 7 & 8 students of Pt England school had two  special visitors come into our class hall  and donate some money to us.  The special visitors that came and donated to us  were staff from the warehouse, their names were Ellie and Gapri. To welcome our special visitors  Mr Burt our principal introduced them to us and then  Toma and Marilyn started  the assembly off with the  karakia and the  mihi, then we all sung them  a waiata  called Wairua Tapu . After we all sat down Ellie and Gapri said their hello’s and then said they had a surprise for us, after that they  held up a long laminated   paper that had numbers and words written  on it, this wasn’t just any ordinary piece of laminated paper it was a donation to our school which had $1,094.46 on it.

We were all so grateful and thankful for the donation they had gave us to support our school. When we got our donation Ellie and Gapri said they had another surprise which our principal did not know about . This surprise  was an community  hero award which went to our principal Mr Burt. Not only did he get an award but h also got a $500 prezzie card, “whoa” I say to myself. Because it was time for them to leave we sung them another waiata called Te Aroha then Josephine said thank you to them and then our assembly was over.

Immersion assembly term 4 2015

For every first day of school Pt England school always has an assembly we like to call an Immersion assembly, this is when all of the teachers who work at Pt England school dress up in costumes and create a skit or a short movie that explains what they are going to be learning about for our topic Pt England school are going to be learning about Survivors, my team (team 5) are going to be learning about PES Survivors. For this topic we are going to learn about different countries and learning about how people and animals adapted to suit their environment.

As I excitedly walked into the hall for our Term 4 Immersion assembly, we saw our principal Mr Burt dressed up in weird clothes with a parrot hat on his head. When all of the students sat down  Mr Burt told us all that he was dressed up as a Fiapoko Parrot,  he then talked to us about a made up story about the Fiapoko Parrot, then he showed us a movie he made with a couple of students to help. I thought the movie was cool and funny but a bit boring in some parts.

Later on Mr Burt said “ Give it up for team 1”! When the team 1 teachers got up on the stage they were all dressed up as zookeepers, that was because all of team 1 were going to the zoo to visit all of the animals and look at all of their habitats..  For team 1’s movie they used videos from youtube of people at the zoo and used the song roar by Katy Perry, After the movie team 1 told us that we they are going to do a karaoke contest and whoever has the best voice they would win a prize. There  were only a couple students on stage because the rest of the school was to shy. The winner of the contest was Marika who was Miss King’s daughter, she got the loudest cheers so that’s how she won. The prize she won was a free trip to the zoo with team 1.

Then it was team 2 and 3’s turn, they were learning about dinosaurs, some are even  going to be making up their own dinosaurs. For team 2 one of the teachers dressed up  into a barney costume, when barney came out all of the little kids were excited, the other teachers asked if some people would want to hug him. For team 3 they were all dressed up as dinosaurs as well, all the teachers from team 3 had made up their own names for their dinosaurs, some of their names were Man-0 saurus, Ballerina-saurus so on so on. Team 3’s movie was called the disco dino's it had all the teachers from team 3 dancing to the song staying alive.  I thought the movie was funny at the end because they are all dancing and all of a sudden a huge explosion blows them up.
For team 4 the teachers asked some students to be in their movie and go in front of a green screen, behind the green screen was an animal and the students had to try guess what animal it was and where they were. I thought the movie was funny. My favourite part was when Venetia ( team 4 student) thought she was in candy land and she thought the animal was a unicorn. My other favourite part is when Dezmon ( Team 4 student) acted like a kangaroo and was hopping around. For team 5 the teachers had a noodle eating contest but they had to eat it with chopsticks so it was even harder, the winner of the contest was Miss Clark. It was funny because Miss Peato and Miss Misela were angry at Miss Clark because they kept saying it was unfair because she was asian.

I thought this terms immersion assembly was cool because the skits and movies were fun to watch and all of the teachers costumes were cool. I can’t wait for next year’s immersion assembly!!

The secret underground

Last week for literacy we did a presentation called the secret underground. This presentation is about insects and animals that live in a cave or in a underground place. For my DLO I have decided to do a animal called a Pandicorn, this is a mixture of a panda and a unicorn. This animal is going to live inside a fridge so it is going to need a fur coating so that it can survive the cold.

History Of Superman

                                                         Link to Superman's history video

Today for inquiry class we have been looking at the history of Superman. We learnt about how Superman adapted to match his environment. One thing he had to do adapt was to change his act and posture around other people. For our activity Miss Misela gave us some questions about superman’s history, here are all the answers I answered.
History of Superman

  • Man of steel.... Red underwear or Blue underwear? Why did it change? DC comics wanted to change Superman’s  underwear to blue because they wanted a slicker gritted modern style.

  • Krypton what is it? Krypton is a planet where superman was born. Krypton is also a chemical element with symbol Kr and atomic number 36. It is a member of group 18 elements.

  • Why was it important to superman? It was important to him because it is where he was born and it is his home planet.

  • What part did superman’s parents have in his survival? They sent him away to safety so that he could survive in planet earth.

  • Original Powers? Did he fly in the beginning? Superman’s original powers were maximum strength, super speed and x-ray vision. No Superman did not fly in the beginning.

  • What changed in term of his superpowers? Able to fly.

  • Daily planet - his workplace...how does he adapt between his human workplace and being a superhero? He adapts by changing not only his clothes and style but he also changes his act and posture.

Miss Universe girls visit Pt England Schoool

Yesterday afternoon Pt England School had some special visitors come and tell us about trade and enterprise. Our special guests we the top 20 Miss Universe contestants but only 16 of them came to our School. When they came in we were all surprised because we didn't know that our guests were going to be the contestants of the beauty pageant Miss Universe New Zealand. 3 of the contestants Sharne, Ella and Gabrielle came up and introduced them selves to us and then told us about being an entrepreneur. Today the top 20 contestants are flying to the Philli-pens to Manila.

After that a man called Jack Yan split them up so that they could come into our class. In class 3 we had 3 of them and their names were Ella, Jordarn and Ronita. They gave us a lot of advice about being good with your money and being an entrepreneur. The time went really fast and  they had to leave but before they went out teacher Mrs Tele'a asked if we cold have a photo with them. I think they were very inspirational the way they talked and how they gave us very helpful advice.

Smart Learning

Today Miss Kyla came into our class and taught us about smart learning. Smart learning is being smart while you are learning. To be a smart learner it is basically researching and finding out the real answer. After she had told us about what smart learning is she gave us all a presentation where you have to write and appropriate question for google to answer it.

Ching Ching Ka Ching

$Ching Ching Ka Ching$
Click Cling Ching is the sound of money being spent on things you either need or want. All over the world there are so many different currencies for example England uses pounds and  Thailand uses Thai Bahts. In this explanation I will  write  how I receive money and what I would do with the money.

How I receive money: To receive my money I do chores like helping out with my brothers or the dishes or cleaning my room, or I usually just get money for christmas and my birthday. I like getting money for christmas and my birthday the most because I usually end up with $200 or sometimes even more. Every week I get $20 for chores or just things I have to do without being told to do them.

After the money has been given to me I always ask if we can go to the american shop (Martha's backyard) because they have a lot of american candy and other american things but only if I have $10 or more. Most times I would save it so I can have more money for later, I mostly spend my money on things that I want because things that I need we go buy it straight away like things for school, home, sports or other important things.

If I want to spend my money but I really want to save it for something I really want but I don’t have enough money for it yet I give it to my parents to hold onto so it can be safe for when I get enough money and it also stops me from buying things.

Cyber Smart, Smart Values

This morning for math Miss Kyla came to teach us about cyber smart. For our activity we did  The Point England Way. Our math class had to answer what we do online when we a showing Partnership, Participation and Protection. I think it is important to be cyber smart when you are online because there is a lot of people you do not know in the world and can randomly add you on anything. So remember to be always be Cyber Smart!

Basketball math questions

In kiwi sport we are learning how to play basketball. So far, we have learnt how to dribble the ball.
A) Chelsea was able to dribble the ball 58 times.
B) Liz could only  dribble half of what Chelsea can.
C) Semi could dribble the ball 7 times more than Chelsea.
D) Izac could dribble the ball 3 times more than Elizabeth.
Q) How many times can each person dribble the ball?

Chelsea =58
Elizabeth = 29
58 / 2 = 29
50/ 2 = 25
8 / 2 = 4
25 + 4 = 29

Semi = 406
58 x 7 = 406
50 x 7 = 350
08 x 7 = 56
350 + 56 = 406

Izac = 87
29 x 3 = 87
20 x 3 = 60
9 x 3 = 27
60 + 27 = 87

ANZAC memorial

Last Friday P.E.S had their very own memorial on our field of remembrance. Our field of remembrance is not that big it is only the size of a little sandpit.The reason why it is only little is because the names of the people on the crosses were the ones who lived around our area like GI and Panmure. All of the crosses have a names on them except one because they couldn't identify the soldier, so instead they named it Known unto God.

On our school wall where our field of remembrance there is a painting of a soldier carrying an injured soldier and a poppy at the back of the soldier. The painting was done by our associate principal Mr Jacobson. I think the painting is really cool because he worked really hard on that, and it looks really good.

At the end of our school assembly all of the students headed to our field of remembrance to do a little memorial. When all of the students were outside we had to put the little junior kids in the very front then it went little, big, bigger and biggest which was the year 7 & 8’s. We were all squished but we still had to work with it.

After a few squishy tight minutes Mr Jacobson was playing the bugle horn off YouTube, when the song was finished our school prefects were doing a speech. “ alright we need a minute silence to remember those who was in the war” Mr Burt said so all of us stood silently in a squishy area.

When our memorial was over all of the year 7 & 8’s went to line up first and walked to class, then it was the year 5 & 6’s and so on.

Happy ANZAC day

Happy ANZAC day everyone!!!! Today is ANZAC day and that's when everyone has a long weekend to remember the soldiers who had risk their lives in the war to save our country. Today is also the 100th year since WW1 ( world war one) happened. A lot of people usually go to the dawn parade held at the Auckland museum, the dawn parade starts at 3:00 or 4:00am.

At the dawn parade there are lots of poppies and crosses that have most of the soldiers names on them, if the people can't identify the soldier it would say Known By God. Our school has a little box filled with grass and has a crosses with the name of the soldiers that used to live around our area. I think 30 crosses have names and one has Known By God, In the front there is a bigger cross that has some words on it with a poppy next to it.

On one of the walls of our school we have a painting of a poppy and then a soldier carrying a hurt soldier, it was painted by our associate principal Mr Jacobson. It looks really cool. He spent a whole school day painting the wall because it was a really big painting to.

The reason why we have poppies for ANZAC is because a lot of the soldiers died on a field and a lot of poppies grew out of the grass, the field is called Flanders field.

2015 Polyfest highlights

Intro: Yesterday morning the students, teachers and parent helpers of team 5 traveled on a bus to Manakau for the 2015 Poly-fest. All of team 5 had to transport there using 4 buses because there was a lot of students. Once we were all on the bus it was time to go, YAY!

As we arrived it was time to get off so everyone said “Thank you” to the bus driver and walked off. While we were waiting in a long queue the security guards were checking the other school’s bags. When it was our turn they didn't check our bags because Mrs Tele’a rung them up and asked if we didn't have to have our bags checked.

My first favorite thing about poly-fest was taking photo’s with Flava & Mai FM because they were really cool and I love both of their radio stations. Our first photo was with Flava, for our photo we had to get into groups of 5. After we took the photos with lava one of the guys printed 1 photo for us. When we took a photo with Mai FM they just told us to hold up a Mai FM sign and then take a selfie, that was really fun.

The second thing I enjoyed was seeing John Key the prime minister of New Zealand. He was only there for a couple minutes and then he left into the big ASB yellow cube. When John Key came all of the cameras were in the way so we couldn’t really see him properly.

My last thing I enjoyed was learning about AUT ( Auckland University Technology) they were talking about game making. 3D printers was another thing they were talking about it was really cool watching a movie about them. We also got to see and hold some of their creations with a 3d printer.

I had so much fun at the poly-fest and it was also my first time going there so it was a great experience. Thank you to all of the parent helpers that came to the poly-fest with us, because you missed a day of work for our trip.
